How to install Stardew Valley mods
Stardew Valley mods add new towns, villagers, farm tools and quality-of-life fixes. Installing one takes four steps:
- Install SMAPI, the mod loader, and launch the game once through it.
- Download the mod (usually from Nexus Mods) and any mods it requires.
- Unzip each mod into
Stardew Valley/Mods, one folder per mod. - Start the game with SMAPI and read the console if anything shows red.

Do I need SMAPI to use Stardew Valley mods?
Almost every Stardew Valley mod runs on SMAPI, the free mod loader. Install SMAPI first, put the mod in your Mods folder and start the game through SMAPI.
Where do I put Stardew Valley mods?
In the Mods folder inside your Stardew Valley game folder. Each mod gets its own folder there, for example Mods/Automate.
Where can I download Stardew Valley mods?
Nexus Mods has the biggest library, and many mods are also on ModDrop and CurseForge. Every mod card in our finder links to the pages where its author publishes it.
Why is my Stardew Valley mod not working?
Most often a required mod is missing, the mod is out of date, or it does not match your game version. Read the red lines in the SMAPI console: they name the missing mod. Our crash-fix guide walks through it.
Can I use Stardew Valley mods on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch or Android?
Console versions cannot run SMAPI mods, so mods are for PC, Mac and Linux. Android needs unofficial community launchers, so expect extra setup and fewer mods that work.
